Toshiba L55t-A i7 Touch Screen Laptop Best Price

Yet another product in the crowded Laptop jungle. This time Toshiba brings another configuration in the L50 series, this L55t-A features a 15.6″ touchscreen with 1366×678 resolution, 8GB DDR3 of memory, 1TB SATA hard drive, 2.4GHz lntel Core i7-4700 Processor, a Mobile lntel HD Graphics Card and a powerful DTS Sound system. This model reveals itself to be a fine companion for those who crave for respectable performance and versatility from their laptop. But it is ultimately hindered by short battery life and somewhat bulky weight.

Aesthetics

Subjective as it may be, aesthetic perception has great influence in the purchase decision making of a laptop. The L55t-A isn’t gifted with the sleek design of many of its peers, so much in vogue nowadays. It is, however, still commendable and has an appreciable degree of style, even though it can look like it’s flirting the tenuous line that separates a stylish and modern design from a dated one. Most of all, it looks ready for business.

Ergonomics

The keyboard and clickpad of the L55t-A are top-notch in the comfort and practicality departments. They are designed and a joy to use, nice examples of what should be nothing more than a natural extension of our hands. The keys feel solid and are silent just like the clickpad, and the Multitouch function leaves nothing to complain about. The keyboard is only missing a backlight. The heat is not overwhelming, staying within what’s expected from a machine with these specs. The major issue is the weight as the L55t-A is slightly heavier than would be desirable. Some of its competitors manage lighter and slimmer frames with the same or similar specs.

Display

Owing to the fact that it is a touch screen laptop the L55t-A can be controlled directly through the screen. It is very responsive to finger input providing smooth and solid control over the interface of a web page or menu, for example. The picture quality is pretty good gracing our eyes with vivid colors that pop beautifully in HD movies. Expectedly, viewing angle is quite limited as this is an LCD screen based on the all too common TN technology, unfortunately standard in laptops. The screen is also prone to reflections despite the anti-glare coating.

Performance and Battery Life

This is an area where the L55t-A certainly does not disappoint, especially in this configuration which features 8GB of RAM and a 2.4GHz i7-4700 processor. Having in mind that this is not the type of machine that is geared towards gaming (obviously due to the lack of a dedicated GPU), it swiftly takes care of all the tasks one can reasonably throw at it. Whether it is web navigation, video editing, sound editing or running a virus scan while streaming an HD video over the network, it can do it all. The hard drive provides nice read and write rates and the PC boots into Windows 8 in a matter of seconds. This is a very easy machine to live with, even under heavy load on the system resources. Recent games are not going to run as smoothly as desired, the lntel HD4000 graphics chipset is a scarce resource for such endeavors, but as already pointed this is not the premise of the L55t-A. Audio performance is quite good, loud and powerful sound is available from the deck speaker, highly recommended enabling DTS Sound for best results. The battery is what really lags behind the competition as it doesn’t endure very long without the backup of a power supply. It should be sufficient breath for short trips, though.

Conclusion

The L55t-A touch screen laptop is another fine product from Toshiba’s Satellite series. It is geared towards movie watching and multitasking, aspects at which it delivers good performance. Very easy to use, with pleasing audiovisual feedback attributable to the vivid screen and vigorous sound quality. Caution should be taken in outdoor or very luminous environments as the anti-glare coating doesn’t quite do its job. Battery life and the weight are the Achilles‘ heel of the L55t-A, two of the aspects that define the advantage of portable PCs are rather compromised here turning the L55t-A into a less desirable preoduct for those who want more transportability and autonomy. Recommended for those who enjoy watching movies in their laptops at home.
